Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award

Fulbright New Zealand and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, New Zealand’s Indigenous Centre of Research Excellence, call for applications to the Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award. This award, valued at up to US$37,500, is for a New Zealand academic, artist or professional to conduct research and/or lecture in the US for three to five months in a field of indigenous development.

The award is available for lecturing and/or research which fits within one of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga’s research themes, as stated on their website at www.maramatanga.ac.nz/research/research-themes. Grantees can undertake an exchange to their choice of leading American universities, including Native American, Alaskan Native and Native Hawaiian-serving institutions renowned for their indigenous study and research programmes.
Last year, Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Awards supported Eruera Tarena (Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) from Te Tapuae o Rēhua to research contemporary indigenous organisation design at Arizona State University Tempe and the University of Hawai‘i, and Veronica Tawhai (Ngāti Porou, Ngāti Uepohatu) from Massey University to research citizenship education at the Center for World Indigenous Studies.
