James Shanly


James Shanly is a Research Fellow at Te Ngāpara Centre for Restorative Practice, Victoria University of Wellington. His research focuses on restorative justice practices and criminal justice reform in Aotearoa New Zealand. He has contributed to multiple government reports examining victim engagement in restorative justice, workplace conflict resolution, and alternative approaches to policing.

Beyond justice reform, James’s research spans interdisciplinary topics including climate change impacts on youth emotional wellbeing, ocean literacy education, and intergenerational care relationships. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals including People and Nature, and he has conducted research for various government agencies incl
