These guidelines were part of a larger project by Te Ohaakii-a-Hine National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together, to support good practice across the country to a range of population groups and provide the opportunity for transparency and accountability with service partners, NZ Police and DSAC trained medical staff, with service funders and our community.
LGBTIQ survivors have specific needs and experiences, and these evidence-based guidelines were the result of consultation with LGBTIQ kaimahi within the sexual violence sector, and Takatāpui and Rainbow community organisations, in particular Hohou Te Rongo Kahukura, a charitable trust focused on preventing and addressing violence experienced by Takatāpui and Rainbow people.

The guidelines present existing research and evidence about sexual violence in LGBTIQ communities, help-seeking challenges, and offer recommendations for frontline service delivery, crisis support services, and sector and community development.
