Janet Tupou

Pacific Strategy Lead

Janet walks between many worlds but the common ground between them all is research. With experience in the areas of academia and evaluation, Janet has a personal and collective mission of combining both worlds into the community research space. She can’t wait to bridge gaps between the community and research space with guidance from the community and honouring their voices in her capacity.

She conducts research in the areas of women’s voice and agency, the Tongan Kiwi (TIWI) diaspora and the creative industries from a Pasifika lens derived from the PhD topic. Outside of the research space, Janet is an active youth group leader, volunteers in her TIWI community and loves to dip into interior design and op-shopping.

Top of her Spotify playlist is one of her favourite songs by Hip hop and R & B artist, Aaliyah, where she quotes lyrics from her song “Try Again: If at first you don’t succeed (first you don’t succeed) / Dust yourself off, and try again”.
